A Young Male Needs Counseling For His Severe Depression, Relationship Problems, And For His Alcohol And Drug Dependency

Roughly three months ago I had lunch with a forty-nine-year-old man named Benjamin who experiences severe depression, has relationship issues, and who is addicted to drugs and alcohol. As explained by Benjamin, it is his drug and alcohol addiction and his extreme depression that has had the most to do with his recurring relationship difficulties.

As explained by Benjamin, he is so dejected by his relationship issues and by both of his medical conditions that he in actual fact has little or no ambition to accomplish much of anything. Or, on the other hand, if he is someone who has to hit the bottom of the barrel before he gets drug and alcohol dependency rehabilitation that leads to lasting recovery.

First of all, there are some recently produced physician-prescribed medications that can help Benjamin through the alcohol and drug detoxification process, through his withdrawal symptoms, and help him avoid a drug or an alcohol relapse. Second, in rehabilitation he could also learn more about his alcoholism symptoms and also about the diverse stages of alcoholism.

Third, Benjamin would learn to understand the fact that there is entirely nothing positive about drug addiction and abusive and unhealthy drinking. In a similar way, he would also learn that involving himself in one or both of these unhealthy situations is the path to a premature death, poor work and school performance, financial difficulties, legal problems, deteriorating health, and shattered relationships. Fourth, treatment for his relationship difficulties and his depression might help him deal with these psychological difficulties more successfully and possibly create less of a need for him to involve himself in addictive behavior. And finally, in counseling he could also learn more about the various symptoms of alcoholism that he has manifested.

Due to the fact that Benjamin doesn't have the ambition to achieve much of anything in his life, it is apparent that he definitely needs some hope for a healthier life. And the unfortunate thing is that hope is virtually everywhere around Benjamin if he could only get to the place in life to get the treatment he requires for his extreme depression and alcohol addiction and drug dependence and adhere to his treatment program.

Benjamin is simply too young to be dejected in life. He doesn't comprehend this at this time in his life but if he can learn how to remove himself from drugs and alcohol through alcohol and drug rehab and get the treatment he needs for his intense depression, he can redirect his life and begin living with passion, direction, and with self-respect.

More solid relationships, positive change, self esteem, and a wonderful life are clearly possibilities for Benjamin. But only if he can get motivated to obtain the medical rehabilitation he needs, follow through with his therapy protocol, live his life in an addiction-free and healthy manner, and learn how to develop a more positive attitude about life.
