A Tuesday Evening Out With Buddies From School At A Local College Bar Results In Abusive And Irresponsible Drinking And Alcohol Poisoning

When Lois was in high school, she had gained a reputation as a studious individual who rarely, if ever, partied with her classmates. She seemed driven to do well academically so that she would be able to secure a career that she not only enjoyed but one that also gave her some financial stability.

After Lois finished high school, she applied to and was accepted into a highly rated program in philosophy. Her reasoning for this decision was that this subject area would be a good foundation for law school and would not be identical to the majority of law school applicants who select political science as their undergraduate major.

Lois was the kind of individual who worked in a rigorous manner to finish what she started and then would take a break when she could. It just so happens, nonetheless, that the vast majority of the things she did between terms or during her summer vacations did not involve drinking. It almost goes without saying that Lois was anything but a party-girl. Now that her final examinations for her second year in law school were over and feeling proud of the fact that she had done extremely well on her tests, however, she wanted to let her hair down and do something enjoyable.

So Lois and a few of her classmates went to a local bar where they had a few glasses of wine. As the evening progressed, Lois and her pals continued to drink. In fact, she was having such a magnificent time that she didn't want the night to end.

After drinking around two hours when Lois started to slur her speech, talk in a confused manner, and then fall unconscious, in spite of this, her friends promptly knew that they needed to call that they needed to call the emergency number and ask for medical assistance because they thought that Lois was exhibiting alcohol poisoning symptoms.

Lois was very aware that she had narrowly escaped death from an alcohol overdose and, as a result, was grateful to be alive. At the same time, however, she was somewhat dejected knowing that she had almost died the night before. Her parents knew how hard she worked at school and how little she let herself have any fun. Nevertheless, they also knew that Lois needed to keep away from careless drinking.

As a result, they suggested that down the road, whenever a drinking situation arises, that she always drink in moderation. Lois was fine with this and promised her parents and her friends that she would never ever drink in an excessive manner. In her own words, "I never thought that I might become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local newspaper. I now realize that careless drinking is not the best for me. I pledge that this will never happen again."

Fortunately, Lois was not only "school smart" but she also possessed. That is, she quickly knew that she had made a mistake and decided that she would never make the same mistake again. In fact, she now understood that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this form of abusive and excessive drinking can end in a loss of life.
