A Ninth Grader Drinks Excessively With His Cronies, Experiences An Alcohol Overdose, And Finds Out That Learning Something In Class Can Affect Your Life

Andy was a ninth grader who frequently seemed to be living on the edge. Andy had an adventurous personality and generally wanted to do what his older brothers were doing. The primary difficulty with this was that all three of his brothers were at least 21 years old and were consequently able from a legal framework to drive a vehicle and to ingest alcohol.

Andy, on the other hand, had a rough time understanding that as a fifteen-year-old individual he should not be drinking. In fact, on the other hand, Andy usually drank with his guy friends after school, particularly on the weekends.

One weekend, Andy made up his mind to drive around with some of his older buddies. One of his pals was old enough to buy alcohol. After purchasing some wine, beer, and wine coolers, Andy and all of his friends went to a public park and drank for approximately two hours.

After drinking more or less six wine coolers, Andy started to feel nauseous and then vomited. When he passed out on the football field, one of his pals called 911 for immediate medical assistance. It was fortunate that the call for medical help was made because when his guy friends went to the hospital to see Andy, they were told that Andy had been exhibiting alcohol poisoning symptoms. Stated briefly, Andy had experienced an alcohol overdose.

After receiving alcohol poisoning treatment, Andy was in reality flabbergasted to learn that he had overdosed on alcohol because he "only" had more or less five or ten drinks. When he stated this to the attending physician at the hospital, nevertheless, the physician told Andy that drinking five or ten glasses of wine over a two or three hour period of time could in reality be quite a bit more alcohol than can be processed by the body. The healthcare professional further explained how excessive alcohol can cause the brain to shut down a person's respiratory system and that when this comes about, a person can expire.

This was the first word of warning to Andy that he was drinking in a dangerous fashion and that there are consequences for such activities. The physician told Andy that he was a lucky person because he almost died from an alcohol overdose the previous night.

The doctor also had a word with Andy's parents and suggested that they get alcohol rehab for Andy. His parents were overjoyed that Andy was all right and told the healthcare practitioner that they would follow through on getting Andy alcohol therapy.

While conversing with his parents, Andy told them that there must be a special reason why he did not die and that he felt a sense of thanksgiving that he was still alive. He also told his parents that the most ironic part about the entire drinking occurrence was that he had learned about alcohol poisoning last week at school.

At the time, what his health instructor, Mr. Johnson, was saying didn't seem to make a lot of sense to Andy. Now that he almost died, on the other hand, he felt that he should have listened more intently in health class and applied what he had learned to his personal life.

Andy told his parents that he couldn't wait to go back to Mr. Johnson's classroom and apologize to Mr. Johnson for not displaying more attention to something that was as significant as learning about alcohol poisoning.
